We are headed for socialism

I have become very disheartened with the U.S. government. I am watching our financial institutions crumbling before my eyes and the inaction in Washington continues.

Political partisanship and socialist ideas have brought us to the edge of a precipice that though we have stopped at the edge, just standing still in this position may bring us to destruction as the ground crumbles beneath our feet.

The politicians have spent so much time worrying about their own re-election that they have used government with its deep pockets to buy votes time after time. I see programs that are disguised as help for the poor, but these temporary measures are not the answer and have sowed the seeds of destruction for our way of life. If the political climate continues as it is now, none of us, whatever our economic situation, will have anything.

We can thank greed for that. That includes the greedy politicians who continually rob the nation’s coffers to feather their own nests; those running the financial markets (I use the term “run” loosely) who have also grabbed every cent they can without regard for the nation; and the speculators who have driven the cost of oil to the point that many may not be able to heat their homes this winter or drive to their jobs, if there are any left after the present debacle.

Many like to call the political climate of inactivity “gridlock,” but I see it as “greedlock.” Everyone is so concerned for their own well-being that they have ignored our country and its well-being.

Without regard for political party, I find that virtually all politicians have ignored the plight of the United States to the point that we have become vulnerable to any and all who wish to do us harm. We are in a position that our national defense is in jeopardy and all our leaders care about is where the next vote is coming from. It is time for the political figures of all stripes to work together for the public good and quit making decisions based on what is best for them personally.

I spent 25 years of my life in the Navy fighting the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and all of its communist satellites and now it looks like it was all for nothing. We are being taken over by the socialists from within.

The time has come for everyone to quit playing games and come together to save our country and our way of life. It is time to return to the principles upon which this country was founded.
