The S.C. Department of Commerce says it continued to set a record-breaking pace for job and capital investment recruitment through the third quarter of 2008.

Through the third quarter of 2008, Commerce is more than 30 percent ahead in capital investment recruitment and more than 20 percent ahead in job recruitment when compared to the same period last year.

In 2007, Commerce and its allies brought in $4.045 billion in capital investment and nearly 16,000 jobs.

Commerce’s allies from across the state are reporting record recruitment levels in Greenville, Spartanburg, Florence, Sumter and Newberry counties. Of particular interest to The Times and Democrat Region is Horsehead Corp.’s plans to build a new facility in Barnwell County, with plans to create 65 new jobs and invest $87 million.
