USC’s Johnson to speak at TD Club

University of South Carolina Gamecock defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson will speak at Thursday’s meeting of the Orangeburg Touchdown Club.

Woodland’s Robert Smith will be honored as the offensive player of the week, and Edisto’s Kamrie Connell will be honored as the defensive player of the week.

The event begins at 11:30 a.m. at The Cinema in the Old Orangeburg Mall. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

Varsity Volleyball

Holly Hill 3, Thomas Sumter 0

HOLLY HILL - The defending SCISA Class AA champs ended the regular season with an unblemished region record of 10-0 after defeating Thomas Sumter 25-4, 25-7, 25-9.

Victoria Way led HHA with 18 assists, eight aces, four digs and three kills; Wehme Carolyn Hutto had 11 aces, four kills and four digs; Meredith Jenkins finished with 10 kills and six aces; Carlie Franklin gathered eight digs, six aces and a kill; Mary Auburn Shuler tallied eight kills and five digs; Hayley Holman added two aces, a kill and a dig.

Holly Hill will begin play in the SCISA state championship tournament on Thursday at the Sumter Exhibition Center.

Orangeburg Prep 3, Wilson Hall 0

OPS ended regular season play with a sweep over the Lady Barons 25-22, 25-21, 29-27.

The Lady Indians were led by Kayla Mims with 10 kills and eight digs; Sallie Covington had four aces, nine kills, three digs and a block; Becca Helms ended the night with four aces, two kills, two assists, six digs and a block; Brandy McRae came away with four aces, eight kills, five digs and a block; Allie Huggins collected four kills and four blocks; Annie Westlund contributed two aces, four kills, 24 assists and five digs.

OPS will begin play in the SCISA state championship tournament on Friday at the Sumter Exhibition Center.

Calhoun Academy 2, Dorchester Academy 0

Calhoun Academy finished the regular season with a 10-8 overall record, 6-4 in region play, with a 25-10, 25-16 win.

Annie Hixson led the way with 19 points, 12 assists and three aces; Megan Carn had 10 points, nine kills, four aces and four digs, Kelsey Sanders had nine points, 10 kills and three aces, Jessica Lyons had five points, two aces and 15 kills.

Calhoun begins play in the state tournament Thursday in Sumter.

B-E splits region trimatch

ST. MATTHEWS - Bamberg-Ehrhardt fell to Bethune-Bowman in two games 17-25, 6-25. The Lady Red Raiders bounced back and defeated Calhoun County 27-25, 17-25, 25-23. Bethune-Bowman defeated Calhoun County Against Calhoun County 25-22, 25-21.

Gloria Wheeler led B-E with a total 20 points, eight aces, two digs and three kills from both matches; Ashle6y Stevenson had 15 points, two aces, two digs and three kills; Shaloree Lawson finished with 14 points, four aces, three digs and two kills; Taneiqua Johnson finished with 13 points, five aces, five digs and five kills; Kendra Jones finshed with 13 points, seven aces, four kills and a dig; Anita Walker added 10 points, four aces and a dig.

Leading Bethune-Bowman was Mya Berry with eight points, 14 assists and four aces; Dierra Fisher had eight serving points and five aces; Franchesca Hook recorded eight serving points with six aces;

Rhonda Hook ended the night with 13 assists, seven points and five aces; LaQuanda Williams chipped in with five kills; Jolena Branch finished with nine serving points.

Bamberg-Ehrhardt finishes the season with a 2-12 overall record and a 2-10 region record.

Bethune-Bowman (10-7, 7-5) finished third in Region 5-A and will travel to Woodland today at 5:30 p.m.

Branchville clinches Region 5-A title

ESTILL - The Lady Yellow Jackets swept their trimatch against Estill and Allendale-Fairfax to win the Region 5-A championship. Branchville downed Estill 25-3, 25-12. Branchville later defeated Allendale-Fairfax 25-9, 25-18, placing the Lady Tigers in second behind the Lady Yellow Jackets.

Branchville’s leading players were Austin Kinard with 19 points, five aces, a kill and an assist; KaAnn Murray had 14 points, 11 assists and five aces. Courtney Simmons finished with nine points, six kills, four aces and four blocks; Savannah Connor tallied six kills; Kaitlin Felder gathered six kills and two blocks.

Branchville (21-4, 12-0) will host the opening round of the SCHSL Class A playoffs on Monday at 6 p.m.

Holly Hill 6, St, Andrews 0

HOLLY HILL - The Lady Raiders swept St. Andrews to advance to the third round of the SCISA playoffs. Results are below:
