O-W set to face tough Aiken team tonight
By BRIAN LINDER, T&D Sports Editor Monday, October 27, 2008Tommy Brown was checking out the playoff scenarios Sunday night, and he thinks his Orangeburg-Wilkinson Bruins are going to be alright.
“They are going to take the top 16 schools, and then they are going to take the next 16 based on points,” Brown said. “And, we are not sitting that badly. We have played four ‘Big 16’ schools and that puts us in good shape. It could be interesting to see where we land based on the points system.”
Thing is though, when Aiken rolls into Orangeburg for tonight’s 6:30 p.m. game against the Bruins, a win surely wouldn’t hurt. O-W is 5-3, but sits at 1-3 overall in Region 5-AAAA. Aiken is 6-2 overall, 2-2 in Region 5-AAAA.
“Oh yeah,” Brown said. “It’s a big game. But, all of them are big as it is.”
Other than a 38-12 hammering a the hands of Lexington, the Bruins have hung tough in region play with two of their losses – Dutch Fork and North Augusta – coming by a combined eight points.
“They are doing a pretty good job,” Brown said of his team. “They are hanging in there, and for us to have a group of kids that are still fighting means a lot. They are still showing up and working hard to try to get better. That is the good thing. They could quit, but they are not.”
