Blue ribbon for Ott's good sense
Wednesday, October 29, 2008In reference to a letter from a James L. Townsend Jr. on Oct. 9 in which he criticized Rep. Harry Ott for only voting 48 percent for conservation (environmental issues), I want to say Congressman Ott should be applauded for not getting carried away with some of the tree hugging wackos that worship the creation more than the Creator.
Of course, I, and Mr. Ott, care for our environment as we realize that it was our God who gave it to us over which to be good stewards. However, having said that, there are those in our world who believe that a snail darter is more important than electricity for human beings. This group of so-called environmentalists believe that living in the dark (ages) is more important than building nuclear power stations, or drilling offshore for more oil. The two public officials praised in Mr. Townsends article, Rep. Sellers and Sen. Hutto, are either misguided, misled or are in the hip pocket of those extremists who would take us backwards in our progress.
Good environmentalism is everybodys concern. Mr. Ott deserves a blue ribbon (not a green star) for having good sense.
