From trunk-or-treats to trick-or-treating on Halloween

Tomorrow evening, the streets will be filled with the likes of monsters, goblins, superheroes and fairy-tale creatures. But for those who would prefer not to compete with traffic and are looking for a safe alternative, check out one of these local community- or church-organized Halloween events and "trunk-or-treats," which are open to the public.

* Oct. 31 -- Trunk-or-Treat. 5 p.m. Santee Fellowship of Praise, Santee. Featuring: Hay rides, a petting zoo, games, food, music, costume contests, a jump castle, cake walks, dunk-the-pastor booth and more. 803-854-2298.

* Oct. 31 -- Haunted House. 5:30-9 p.m. Prince of Orange Mall. Sponsored by the city of Orangeburg Parks and Recreation Department. $2.

* Oct. 31 -- Fall Festival. 6-8 p.m. Neeses Flea Market. Sponsored by Calvary Baptist Church in Neeses. 803-263-4420.

* Oct. 31 -- Fall Festival and Trunk-or-Treat. 6-8:30 p.m. First Baptist Church, North. Free. 803-247-2711.

* Oct. 31 -- Hallelujah Trunk-or-Treat. 6-8 p.m. Springhill Missionary Baptist Church, Eutawville.

* Oct. 31 -- Harvest Festival and Trunk-or-Treat. 6-9 p.m. Mount Calvary Baptist Church. 803-534-9667.

* Oct. 31 -- Trunk-or-Treat. 6-8 p.m. Joe Miller Park, Elloree. Sponsored by the Elloree Police Department, the town of Elloree and the Pythian Sisters of Elloree Temple No. 4. Free. 803-897-2821.

* Oct. 31 -- Funfest '08. 6:30-8:30 p.m. Cornerstone Community Church. For children ages birth through eighth-grade and their parents. Free.
