An Orangeburg youth was sentenced this week after he pleaded guilty to taking part in the August armed robbery of residents at a College Avenue home.

Marshall Michael Smith, 17, of Dellwood Drive, pleaded guilty to strong-armed robbery and second-degree burglary this week in General Sessions court.

Circuit Court Judge Perry Buckner sentenced Smith under the Youthful Offender’s Act to a term not to exceed six years on each charge. The sentences are to be served concurrently.

The cases against two others, including a 16-year-old juvenile, are pending.

A warrant against Smith indicates that he along with his codefendants forced their way into a College Avenue home. Once inside, they struck a man in the head with a pistol.

The youths then grabbed some video games and a piece of jewelry before fleeing the residence.

What the teenagers didn’t know was that a woman inside the home had heard the altercation. She hid inside a closet and called 911.

Police arrived within minutes to apprehend the teens walking away from the home.
