Clark, Pearson honored by MEAC

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Two South Carolina State players were among those student-athletes earning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference honors, the league announced Monday.

Redshirt freshman quarterback DeWain Clark (6-3, 200) was named Rookie of the Week, while senior Nygel Pearson (6-6, 305) earned Offensive Lineman of the Week accolades. Clark, making his first collegiate start, directed the Bulldogs to a 56-0 triumph over Howard. The Statesville, NC native completed 11 of 14 passes for 175 yards and one touchdown and rushed seven times for 89 yards and set up another score. Pearson spearheaded the SC State blocking that accounted for 541 total yards, including 366 on the ground. The Darlington, SC native recorded four pancake blocks, three domination blocks, 11 cut blocks and four touch-down creating blocks in the victory.

Also honored were running back Kareem Jones of Delaware State, named Offensive Player of the Week, and Bryan Parker of Florida A&M, who garnered Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
