Town hopes residents will start Crime Watch program
By PHIL SARATA, T&D Staff Writer Friday, November 14, 2008LIVINGSTON - A presentation on the Crime Watch program by Orangeburg County Sheriff's deputies topped the Livingston Town Council's light November agenda.
Mayor Bobby Gordon said he would like to schedule a town meeting sometime after the holidays, either in January or February, to have deputies talk about the Crime Watch program with interested Livingston residents.
A Livingston Crime Watch could work closely with Orangeburg County Sheriff's deputies responsible for patrolling the western end of the county, Gordon said. Deputies are now using the nearby Neeses Town Hall as an office for the completion of incident reports and other paperwork, it was noted.
Also during the meeting, Gordon said the new playground equipment ordered during the summer had arrived and was in the process of being installed in front of the Livingston Municipal Building.
Several contractors are also currently working on replacing the walls and ceilings as part of an interior renovation of the old town hall, Gordon said. The work is being funded by Orangeburg County one-cent capital improvement tax money. Gordon said that new windows plus heating and air conditioning systems have already been installed in the structure. Completion of the project is anticipated sometime around the first of the year.
In other business, Gordon said the town has access to a bucket truck that will be used to hang Livingston's Christmas lights and decorations along U.S. 321 prior to Thanksgiving.
