Why did we elect Obama?

 Tuesday, November 18, 2008

58 comment(s) | Default | Large

Congratulations America, we've got a new president! We've just elected a person who promotes socialism ("I'm going to spread the wealth around"). We've just elected a person who is going to raise just about every tax we have and create more new ones just for good measure. We've just elected a person who is not a Christian (he attended a church for approximately 20 years where hate and racism were taught). We've just elected a person who thinks a 14-year-old girl should be able to have an abortion without her parents knowing about it. We've just elected a person whose middle name is Hussein. We've just elected a person who received millions of dollars of campaign money from the Middle East.

All of this makes me wonder, why did we do this?

Everyone I have asked this question seems to start talking about how bad George W. Bush has been. In 2006, after six years of Bush, unemployment was at an all-time low, consumer confidence was at an all-time high, the stock market was at an all-time high, the housing market was booming and gas was an average of $2 per gallon. In 2006, our very-left-wing media (NBC, ABC, CBS), decided for us it was time for "change." They smeared Bush in every way possible and convinced Americans to vote in a Democratic Congress. We all know what has happened since. Be careful what you wish for, it may just come true. The interesting fact that you won't get from NBC is that Congress' approval rating is lower than Bush's.

This brings me to another point. It has become socially acceptable to blame everything on our president. It started in Hollywood, continued with the news media, and has trickled down to John and Jane Doe. I think some people blame George W. Bush if their nose starts running. It is time to stop blaming and start looking in the mirror. If your life isn't quite like you want, then maybe you should work a little harder. Maybe you should've studied a little more in high school so you could have gone to college. My point is, if a person has good health, he/she should be able to handle the rest and make a good life for himself/herself.

Stop pointing fingers and take a little responsibility for your own actions and decisions. Did you know that in 2007 Americans spent more money than they made? The only other time in the history of the United States that this has happened was in 1929. We all know what happened after than. Maybe, just maybe, we are in the financial situation we are in now because many people are lazy, greedy and everyone is trying to keep up with the Jones's. I have an idea. Maybe we should study harder, work harder, be nicer, smile more, save a little money out of every paycheck and live within our means. This is just an idea, what do I know?

Well, now that we have our President who is going to bring us "change," I can't wait for gas to be $1 per gallon again. I guess that unemployment will reach record lows (maybe even lower than under Bush), the stock market will sore to new heights, all of our troops will come home, no one will ever have a house foreclosed on again, and all you Bush "haters" will stop complaining and start working and paying taxes like the rest of us.

Remember these two quotes: "A government that robs Peter to pay Paul will always have the support of Paul" and "A government that is large enough to give you anything you want is large enough to take anything it wants from you."

" OBAMA is what the world has been waiting for.
He won fair and square. Lets support him. America is a country of diverse cultures, ideology, race, religion, and social class.
I respect different opinions, but its challenging for me to except crtitism of this brilliant man, when he hasn't been given a chance to prove himself.
It makes me wonder where this critism is coming from is it because of his skin color that he has been called a "Socialist" ??
He has stated that he is not!!!!
Lets not forget that the wonderful peace loving Martin Luther King was once called a Comunist, because he wanted freedom and equal rights for all.
My opinion is that whenever a person of color reaches a position of dominance and hierarchy, they are viewed with suspicion. Give president elect Obama a chance. "

" What I am going to say is ludicrous, but it makes a lot of sense. The economy was stable in January. No one can deny that. It seems when the Democrats took over Congress in Jan. of 2007 they provided no oversight of the Mortgage industry, the Stock Exchange, or the banks. There are committees that do this!
It seems that maybe the Democrats wanted the economy to go bad so they could elect a Democrat. McCain could not attack Congress since he was a Senator. So he was in a Catch 22. "

" ms jones,
Is that sarcasm I sense? WOW, I barely caught it. I'm not conceited however, I let my work speak for me. Ummm let's see, salutatorian from high school, summa cum laude from college, 4.0 graduate studies.....I guess I am intellectual.

Of course President Elect Obama will constantly be under the microscope. However, this article is bringing up facts that are no longer relevant. The fact is - he is the President Elect. We can constantly critique him for his every move but the fact remains, he represents all citizens of the UNITED States of America. A word many of us have never even acknowledged (UNITED). Together we stand, divided we fall. We are fighting among ourselves about facts that are no longer relevent. The race for President is over. Now it's time to support our new President. He will be the NEW commander in chief whether you like it or not. "

" Ooh, msintellect, with a name like that, you must be smart. Wagreen1, are you kidding President Bush was attacked from the day he was elected. So, if all you Obama voters can’t take the questions and criticism, you leave the Country. Lastly, when you refer to someone’s wounds received as a POW in a derogatory manner, that is being disrespectful. I am even willing to go out on a limb and say that you have never served your Country or been in combat, much less a prisoner of war. I guess you have been too busy making excuses and blaming all of your failures on “the man”, right, wagreen1? FHSMCT, to what hatred and violence are you referring? Are you referring to people questioning Obama on the issues? I’m sorry but as president elect, he has opened himself up to questioning, and rest assured he is being treated with kid gloves in the media; unlike President Bush. What saddens, but does not shock me, is the open racism that is being displayed by my brothers and sisters. We have made playing the race card an art form. For any other President elect, this line of questioning would have been par for the course, however for the messiah, it racism. We questioned GW bush at every turn, blamed him for circumstances such as Katrina; and any other shortcoming that we have. We fail to take responsibility for our actions and place the blame on all other facets of society. We call all other members of society racist, to further our own agenda, while voting for a presidential candidate because of his skin color. Obama is the President elect and all of the honorable citizens of this Country will stand by him, however that doesn’t mean he will not be questioned on the issues and his stances; that comes with the office, and it is not racist to ask these questions. "

Do you know that his arms were injures in a POW camp? You are a racist and not worthy of comment. My challenge to you, discredit one of the statements confisus_sum has made and try to do it in English. Msintellect, what is your profession? You talk about the researching of facts but don’t attempt to dispute them. McCain still graduated from the Naval Academy. What have you done? What is your contribution? He spent years as a POW even with offers to be released he remained a prisoner; again, what have you done? What are the discrepancies? Are you referring to the Keating Five of which he was exonerated, or are you referring to his personal life and marriages? Let me guess morality matters to liberals now, right? Sprinkleboy, we’re glad you left too. Barbara, you’re still a racist. "

Obama won and thats final, there is NOTHING you can do about that now. If you are a proud, loving, supportive American then you would support this brilliant, magnificent, new president elect.

OBAMA! OBAMA! We appreciate you. "

Second of all ifyou think that all of confisus_sum statements are true, you are a bigger idiot than he is. You conservatives can dish it but you can't take. Your points are effectively insignificant. The thread is about comrade obama. I know that you were taught this spin by the democratic party and the liberal media, but step outside the collective and think for yourself for a change. BTW, do you honestly think anything will come out of a Cheney investigation? Did anything come out of the multitude of Clinton investigations? Wake up, and quit being led around by politicians and their mouthpieces. Hey sprinkleboy, where was your vilification of the 8 years of treatment received by President Bush. Is it only when the democrats are scrutinized that southerners are backwards, clinging to our guns and bibles? So if we give up our ideals of smaller government and states rights, will that make us progessive enough to live with you in D.C.? No thanks, I like it here much better. "

2) McCain is barely educated and his experience was less than Obama's. (I guess 30 years in Congress is less than 147 days. Must be the new math)

No, this is not new math. I was referring to him completing his naval academy education experience at nearly the bottom of his graduating class.

With his experience in Congress, he has had major discrepancies in his work and work ethic.

You try to insult peoples' intelligence by researching facts. Anyone can google information. That doesn't make you a rocket scientist or any better than the next person. What is your contribution to society besides commenting on every article posted in the tandd, a newspaper only known to people in Orangeburg and the surronding areas or people from Orangeburg and surrounding areas. " There's been a lot of discussion about having some kind of testing for voter eligibility and you can certainly see the justification for it from the comments from this article. Probably most of the people wouldn't have been given the opportunity to vote for either candidate. Anyway, seems as if Obama is putting together quite a team so we will soon be able to judge him on his merits. It does seem odd that when a conservative gets in trouble it is when he trys to lean in the direction of a liberal. G. W. Bush is a compasionate conservative, which translates to a liberale, i.e. Democrate. Therefore, he doesn't veto those bills coming from a democrat congress because he leans in that direction. Those programs that he initiated, both Prescription Drug and No Child Left Behind are Liberal programs. The bailouts that Paulson are doing are Socialism programs. Bringing Freedom (Democracy) around the world, does that sound familiar? Should, how about the Clinton Initiative, this has been the hangup about getting Hilliary the Sec. of State job. So there you have it, W Bush is not popular with either party....let's see how Barry Obama fares. "

If you want to speak of gross errors in fact, for starters, in your Nov 20, 2008 3:53 PM posting, you clearly implie that PEOTUS Obama has 147 days in office in the Senate.

Assuming you're speaking of his time in the Senate, PEOTUS Obama, with his having entered the Senate in 2005 and having served until his recent resignation on November 16, 2008, in the math I was taught, that's a heck of alot longer than 147 days!

These and others . . . "

Your comments about a veteran disabled while a prisoner of war was very disrespectful and shows the type of character that you truly have. FHSMCT, where is your validation of the inaccuracies. How this works is you have to actually provide proof of inaccuracies and not just say that they are there. Who is this pero, what does your comment even mean. If it means that this Country is in for a terrible time when Obama takes office then you are actually correct. As for your question: Who is Andy, it seems to me that he is a very intelligent individual that is concerned enough about the direction of the Country that he took the time to write a piece describing his point of view. As for all the “haters” they are unable to provide an intelligent debate so they call names. Barbara, you’re still a racist, so get over it. "

Walgreen's (sp) attempt at disputing my post amounted to name calling and hate speech. Not ONE fact to defend their position, and not one fact to dispute mine. If what I say doesn't matter, then why do you respond to it EVERY TIME? Blindly supporting the most inexperienced marxist nominee for President is not my plan. It's a sad fact that the average native born American can't pass the written test that immigrants who apply for US citizenship are required to take, much less one on current affairs.

2.

It constantly amazes me how, with all the access to information we in this country have (print, broadcast, internet, etc), how misinformed people are and how persistant so many are in standing by and defending thier ill informed beliefs.

I daily read at least four (4) newspapers as well as watch various news broadcast then, the next day, listen to co-workers and other's conversations where the "facts" they spout are 180 out from the truth.

And God forbid if you point out the errors and provide validation for what you say!

3.

I am even more saddened, but not surprised, at the on-going rash of hatred and violence that has been directed at people who voice or otherwise show their support for the President elect.

It is an utter embarassment to all that this country supposedly stands for and supposedly represents!

I'll never say that the PEOTUS is perfect (none of us is) but the standard to which so many seem to be holding him to, before he has served a single day in the national residence, is impossible for anyone to meet!

P.S. People keep throwing "Bill Ayers" name around. I'm know for certain that, in Orangeburg county alone, I can point out a whole lotta folks whose pasts are not exactly something they would like rehashed. Many of the people who enjoy throwing out the Ayers factor count many among that multitude as friends and associates . . . "

1) If you disagree with Obama you should leave the US. (Sounds eerily like communism)
2) McCain is barely educated and his experience was less than Obama's. (I guess 30 years in Congress is less than 147 days. Must be the new math)

6) What is a looser? Did this mean Obama was loose with his associations?
7) Obama is not a socialist. (He is, check his platform against the socialist party USA website)
8) Obama doesnt pal around with terrorists. (He does, Bill Ayers ring a bell? Called him a "family friend" in his latest book)
9) Obama will only raise taxes for $250,000 earners. (Not so. Already has lowered threshold to $100,000, and likely will copy Clinton who started at $250,000 and ended at $42,000. And why wouldn't he, since he has already hired his old staff. This is change?)
10) Everyone should have healthcare. (Why? Is that guaranteed in the constitution? You want to reduce health care costs, then enact tort reform, or ban lawyers.)
11) Obama can fix the countries problems. (What has he published in the form of a plan that demonstrates this fantasy?)
12) Installing a democracy in Iraq did not benefit the American people. (Impossible to explain to people who don't understand global politics and strategic presence in volatile areas)
13) If you don't agree with Obama, you don't have Jesus. (No comment necessary here)
14) The economy was worse two years ago. (Obviously Mr. Utsey has been asleep for two years. Rumplestiltskin slept through the democrats failure to provide oversight to freddie and fannie, Obama's campaign cash cow, gas was $1.87. Unemployment was down, stock market was at the highest level ever, banks were flush with cash, and consumer confidence was peaking.)
15) If you disagree with Obama you should shutdown because the game is over. (Rest assured that is NOT going to happen for me. Obama wanted the microscope on him and now he has it. I submit that he will look a whole lot different under it. Maybe on December 5th, when he is declared ineligible to be President, he will be more upfront about who he is.)
16) Obama was ordained by God to be President. (This comment is just scary)
17) The points in the first paragraph are not true. (This one is too easy. All the points, save the religious affiliation are true and easily documented. Once again folks are too caught up to really do any research.)
18) Obama's failure to live up to his campaign promises already, are just minor distractions. (You cannot be serious. If he is already changing his promises, what is next?)
19) The inauguration is a happy time. (Not if you are a resident of D.C. The D.C. government predicts the event to bankrupt the city. Wonder if Obama will use any of the 600,000,000 in campaign contributions he received to help pay the cost?) "

However, I work hard and have a good respectable job but still find the cost of living becoming unbearable. It implies that people who voted for Obama are all on welfare and voted to insure they get their monthly checks, which is so stupid I am surpised the editor let this rant get published. "

RE: "We've just elected a person who is not a Christian (he attended a church for approximately 20 years where hate and racism were taught)."

Until recent times, that sure sounds a the accurate description of just about every non-minority church in the south.

In a 1963 speech at Western Mich Univ, MLK, Jr stated:

""We must face the fact that in America, the church is still the most segregated major institution in America. At 11:00 on Sunday morning when we stand and sing and Christ has no east or west, we stand at the most segregated hour in this nation. This is tragic. Nobody of honesty can overlook this.""

Unfortunately, that is still the case today in all too many congregations.

2.
Why do sooooo many people persist in the false belief that President Elect Barack Hussein Obama is not a Christian?

Should we also so label (non-Christian) anyone in America, who adamantly, ardently and openly opposed the civil rights movement (to include the vast majority of non-minority Christian congregations that did thusly) "non-Christians"?

If you don't have a European sounding name, are you thus automatically "not a Christian"?
[RE: "We've just elected a person whose middle name is Hussein."]

To follow that misguided logic, the Ngyuens, Sihanouks, Khans, Parikhs, etc, etc of the world who happen to be Christians should automatically be branded "not a Christian".

I have yet to hear much of any uproar over the verifable fact that the current President's father, himself a former POTUS, had business interests, via the Frank Carlucci headed Carlyle Group, with the Saudi Binladin Group (a construction and equity management conglomerate grossing $5 billion U.S. dollars annually). That business entity belongs to the family of the most wanted terrorist in the world.

3.
"The interesting fact that you won't get from NBC is that Congress' approval rating is lower than Bush's."

Might that just happen to be a contributory cause for the number of GOPers who lost their seats and thus the number of Demo seats gained on Capitol Hill?

Bottom line: If soooooo many folks are soooooooooo good at prognostication, shouldn't they be picking Lotto numbers for a living and living off the profits? . . . "

" It seems to me that all of you who are complaining about President elect Barak Obama's victory over John McCain and Sarah Palin (The Gop) are no more than very very sore loosers (you probably get extremely upset when the Gamecocks loose in landslides as well...like they did in Florida). In both instances the best and most prepared candidate/team won. This is the American way Mr. Sanders. I'm surprise you didn't learn that while you were studying so hard in high school and or college

Your letter was indeed well written, but it hinges on the same claims (or lies) of John McCain, Sarah Palin, and Joe the Plumber, that President elect Barak Obama is a socialist or Marxist and pals around with terroists.

This only shows that your understanding or ability to interpret plain english is somewhat thwarted. All during the campaign, President elect Obama's plan was that everyone who makes under $250,000 annually will get tax cuts, and those making more will get a tax increase. How do you, (as interpreted in plain english), conclude that this is "spreading the wealth around?"

Everyone should have affordable health care, education needs to be improved in this country, the troops should not be in those senseless and selfish wars. Mr. Obama's focus is to fix these downfalls in our country, unlike President Bush who promised to track down and capture or kill Osama Bin Laden over seven years ago.

What he did was concentrate on helping his colleagues in the pharmaceutical, auto,Wall Street and oil industries get richer. (Are you one of them?) He got Saddam Heusin captured and killed, what did that have to do with stopping terrorists, or helping this country?

You and all off your supporters are sore loosers who want to prevent people who are less fortunate than you from making progress. This indicates that what you really need is Jesus. "

" It yet amazes me after the FACT, that we are still with these same antics...These antics did not work prior to the election, and they won't work now. It has become so obvious that americans have decided to think for themselves, with that they chose to elect Mr. Obama as your president as well as mind. Can you ever be satisfied with anyone other than a Republican in the seat. You people, are the very reason why this country and more so this state has been held back for so long. Instead of letting people draw there own conclusions from what they see, you decide to just dispell the negative sides of any candidate that you so choose to disagree with. This is America people. You talk about approval rating of congress is low....because democrats controlled congress; you forget to mention the VETO power of the president. You see, most people view congress as the president, as the manager of the country and congress. If he likes a bill, he signs it. If he doesn't, he VETO it, but you fail to mention that as well. And when a bill gets passed through a democratice congress, a bill that most citizens, including democrats like and it then gets VETOED, of course it make people disapprove of congress, because they don't quite understand the process. And for you to go on and present these false claims of congress approval, is disingenuous. Also, you mention the last 2 years the democrats so call controlled congress, but yet you failed to mention what happen the prior 6 years, that has lead us to this point.

This is the very reason why when I see all these posts, I just refuse to respond. Because, having a fair and impartial discussion with half of you is impossible.

The conservative-republicans, the liberal-democrats, and all other labels that you used to identify people and allow yourself to be identified is the biggest problem of all in this country. I am hoping that one of these days all of america will wake up and get informed.

One thing we can take from Mr. Obama, its simple and he put it out there for you. If you were happy with the direction of the country for the last 8 years, then you need not vote for him because that was gonna change and it would not be the same. It is simple.
Now since the media started throwing unused terminology for most people since college, such as socialism, marxist and others....It's obvious youare nothing more than a bandwagoner.

But I hope you realize that people are alot smarter than what government gives them credit for being. And guess what...we as american citizens are getting smarter. Blacks, whites, asians and latinos are learning to get informed, gettting more engaged in the political process and how it affects everyday life for ALL, not just oneself. I know it scares most of you closed minded people and I am glad that it does. So you might as well get used to it. Use that energy, that you use to brainwash others and think about how your position on someone else's ideology really affects you and your loved ones and your community as a whole. Don't be fooled people.

And let me make myself perfectly clear. I am an african american and I am proud to have voted for Mr. Obama, but i did it not because he is black, but because when he stirred the pot...WE WERE ALL IN IT TOGETHER! All races, all genders, all nationalities. With a love for this country and ALL the citizens that reside in it, and make it what it should be. ONE NATION UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTIES AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.....NOT JUST THE SELECT FEW!

And if, Mr. Obama cannot and does not attempt to fill the greater needs of this country...I will protest against him as I did against Mr. Carter, Mr. Reagan, Mr. Bush, Mr. Clinton and George W.

I know there are alot more people that feel about this the way I do, than feel about it the way that you do.....That puts US in the majority and you in the FEW!

Be honest with YOURSELF people...trust your OWN mind.

Enuff Said!

SHUTDOWN....GAMEOVER! "

Since saying God might offend someone you liberals want to remove God from everything thats a FACT...

sickofcrying

you said "You act as if people voted without thinking" well bingo your correct, people did vote without thinking. You mean the record number of blacks that voted because they cared about the issues yea right or the fact they were voting on the Barrys skin color. The democrat party was handing out prefilled ballots so. Why do they do that is it because they felt the some of the people voting are to stupid to know who to vote for so they need a prefilled sample ballot so yes some voted without thinking. "

By the way, economies are cyclical and the easiest person in America to blame is the President. "

" so•cial•ism- a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done. I placed this definition here for people like sickofcrying. Obama’s policies are socialist and rest assured the media never attempted to point this out because they made every effort to get him elected. Obama hung out with a non-repentant terrorist who stated he wished he could have caused more damage of course that didn’t matter and the media brushed it under the rug. Obama mentioned that he would abide by campaign finance reform, but took money from anybody that would give it to him just as quick as it came in; that also was of no consequence. He went to a church led by an obvious racist, for several years, and mentioned that he never heard the racist sermons that erupted from the pull-pit; that only made him more endearing. If McCain would have done any of the above, he would have been tarred and feathered. Now, however, Obama has been elected and we are asked not to question his policies or ideas and if you do, “your hate is showing”, you’re a racist, or “hater”. Did anything stop the uneducated, hateful masses from blaming everything on President Bush? Your right the manager does get the credit or the blame, but let’s remember that, and as the manager Obama will have to stand and face his criticism. If people feel that Obama has wronged them, real or perceived, they have every right to come kicking and screaming, and that is not racism that is freedom of speech. If you don’t like it, then you leave Barbara and Stopthecrying. Obama will place a larger financial burden on the taxpayers of this Country and that means the people that actually pay taxes. Not the ones that file and get back substantially more than they paid in. Our tax system should not be a means of wealth redistribution or welfare system. Money should not be given in the form of a bailout to the auto industry to show support for the union. People should not be denied the right to vote on unionization do to thug tactics in the form of Obama’s card check. So far Obama who has not taken office yet is making several bad decisions and he has earned the right as President elect to be called on those decisions weather you like it or not. Lastly, you liberals sure are scared of Sarah Palin aren’t you? It’s amazing how many times her name shows up in these posts, especially when the topic is not relayted to her. Let’s face it the “NEWS MEDIA” did not have to bring anything to the attention of the American people that was not already known. You act as if people voted without thinking. When you cast your vote did you think about it or just did it because the “NEWS MEDIA” had you believe that the Democratic choice was a socialist. If there is a problem in Washington the finger pointing goes to the manager in which case it is, President George W Bush, so if you think people are not noticing the hard economic times then you are as dumb as the thought process that went into making the pick for Vice President of the Republican Party. So I say to you Mr. Sanders stop crying, because like it or not there is a new Sheriff in town, get behind the President to be and help bring about the change that is needed in America and stop whining because your candidate did not make it.
