Claflin plans reception for African art exhibit

Thursday, November 20, 2008

Claflin University will hold a reception for the African art exhibit "Enhancing the Vision Through African Art" at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, in the Arthur Rose Museum on campus.

Claflin's African art collection consists of 150 pieces that are indigenous to Kenyan tribes, donated by the Rev. Louis T. and Barbara J. Cannon in 2003. In 2008, renowned artist Floyd Gordon donated several additional pieces to help build the collection. The collection is a slice of African culture, from handcrafted masks and colorful batiks to original oils and acrylic on canvas and wooden carvings.

The reception is free and open to the public. The exhibit is open to the public through Monday, Nov. 24.
