S.C. out of touch with reality

I have just read your "T&D opinion: Democrats fall short of goals in S.C. election."

I must say what I see is that my home state of South Carolina is out of step with the rest of the nation and the world. This is a Republican stronghold, along with Alabama and Mississippi.

It would appear we are a non-progressive state holding onto out dated ideals. Is the rest of the nation (and the world) moving toward cohesiveness and cultural acceptance, and leaving South Carolina behind?

How are we to climb any mountain, Democrat or Republican, when it seems we are so out of touch with reality?
