An Orangeburg man contacted law enforcement Thursday after he was assaulted over a debt owed him by an acquaintance.

The man said on Tuesday, he approached a man who owed him $10. He said when he asked for his money, the man struck him in the head with his hand, or possibly with a handgun. The man wasn't sure which, the report said.

Deputies noticed the alleged victim had a swollen eye.

When asked why he didn't report the assault when it happened, the man said he didn't know the subject's name. He said he had been trying to get deputies the name of the assailant, the report said.

In other reports:

* A Florida man staying at a St. Matthews Road hotel reported some of his coins were stolen by a female acquaintance Thursday. He said at approximately 7 a.m., he discovered about $200 in coins, $500 in cash and the 22-year-old woman from West Virginia missing.

The 53-year-old man said the woman took the coins and money while he was sleeping. Hotel employees told deputies they saw the woman leaving around 5 a.m. She was walking along U.S. 601, the report said.

Deputies searched but were unable to find the woman.

* A Birch Drive man reported his ATV was taken from his pickup truck early Thursday. The man said he left his orange and black Polaris Outlaw ATV in the bed of his truck Wednesday night. But on Thursday morning, the $6,000 vehicle was missing, along with the loading ramps, the report said.

* An Atlantic Drive man reported his black and silver GMC Denali missing Thursday.

The man said at approximately 1:30 a.m., he returned home and discovered the vehicle missing from his yard. He called a repo company who told him they didn't take the $3,800 GMC, the report said.

* An Elloree woman's car was taken from her property early Friday. She told investigators her burgundy 2004 Oldsmobile Aero was discovered missing around 3 a.m. She said the payments were current on the $8,000 Olds, the report said.

* Deputies are seeking legal action after an Orangeburg woman reported a series of harassing phone calls last week. The woman told deputies that on Nov. 15 a male acquaintance text messaged her 48 times, making threats against her. Deputies advised the woman to save the messages.
