GREENSBORO, N.C. - Officials are breaking ground on the site of a $100 million FedEx Ground distribution hub in North Carolina that’s expected to create at least 300 jobs.

The News & Record of Greensboro reported a ceremony will be held Friday in Kernersville. Construction will begin this spring.

The 400,000-square-foot center is scheduled to open in 2011, and employ 500 people in part- and full-time jobs. Two centers in Winston-Salem will be consolidated with the new center.

FedEx also is building a $500 million air hub at the Piedmont Triad International Airport. It is expected to open next year and create about 1,500 jobs.

Guilford County commissioners gave FedEx an incentive package worth about $950,000 over three years.
