BAMBERG - A 65-year-old Bridge Street woman contacted the Bamberg Police Department on Nov. 17 after she realized someone had been stealing checks from her and forging her name on the checks.

When the woman received her bank statement on Nov. 15, she discovered seven checks had gone through her account that she had not written, according to the incident report. The victim provided police with copies of the checks.

A Bamberg man, who had been staying in the woman's home and doing some work there, was identified as the person forging the stolen checks and cashing them at the bank and at a store in Bamberg. A warrant was taken out on the 52-year-old man.

In other reports, a 1999 Mitsubishi owned by a Bamberg woman was damaged while parked in the Pizza Hut parking lot on Main Highway on Nov. 18. The 23-year-old woman notified police on the morning of Nov. 19 that an unknown person had keyed her vehicle and scratched a profane word on the trunk of the car as it sat in the parking lot the night before. The damage was estimated at $500.
