Cindy Smith is hero to many citizens
Sunday, November 23, 2008I have known Cindy Smith for years. I have since moved on from my 13 years of service of volunteer firefighting, first responding and EMS. Through those years of service, I have seen Cindy Smith on countless times at different types of scenes. She has worked at fires, wrecks, chemical spills, tornadoes and hurricanes.
I have seen people just trying to find a place to go to put their heads down at night. And yes, she was there. She would come to scenes when fire personnel were on a fire scene for many hours, tired and wore out. Cindy would bring the fire personnel drinks and a snack to help keep them going.
Cindy Smith, along with her husband (John), during an approach of a hurricane worked days before and after from a command post setting up transportation for those citizens. There are many other stories of the wonderful things Cindy Smith has done during her tenure.
Cindy Smith conducted classes on how to better prepare people for jobs and emergencies, first aid, CPR and other classes. Cindy Smith was always trying to raise money for the Red Cross. As we all know, times are hard for the average person these days.
For 20 years Cindy Smith has obligated herself to this type of work. Yes, this was her job.
There are a lot of people that are in emergency work. These people, whether paid or volunteer, know this type of work does not stop at 5 p.m. It is when you are called.
Cindy Smith, it was an honor to have been at your side for people that were in need. You do have a very big heart. Thank you.
