Millie W. Brunson and Dr. Carl A. Carpenter were recently recognized as recipients of the Regional Medical Center of Orangeburg and Calhoun Counties' Trustee of the Year Award. The award pays tribute to service and devotion to improving the RMC.

"Mrs. Brunson and Dr. Carpenter are quite deserving of this recognition," Board Chairman James Amaker said. "This award provides an opportunity to publicly thank and acknowledge these two board members for their many hours of service and leadership and for their commitment to providing our community with a hospital that leads the way in quality care and technology."

RMC President and CEO Tom Dandridge said, "As the CEO, I work for the board and am quite dependent on the tireless, diligent efforts of board members in making difficult decisions in a volatile health care environment. Dr. Carpenter and Mrs. Brunson are the epitome of this type of dedication to the best interests of RMC and the communities we serve. I truly appreciate their wisdom and guidance."

An Orangeburg native, Brunson has served as a member of the Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees since 1998. During the years 2001-2005, she was board chairman. She has also served as chairman of the board's Management Oversight Committee, the Operational Improvements Committee and the Bylaws Committee. Brunson is a member of the French Huguenot Church of Charleston. She and her husband, Dr. James Brunson, live in Orangeburg, and they have two children and three grandchildren.

During Carpenter's seven-year tenure on RMC's board, he has served in many capacities, in addition to his three years as vice chairman. Currently the chairman of the Edisto Regional Health Services Board, he previously served as chairman of the Finance Committee and is a member of the Trustee Development Committee.

A native of Gaffney, Carpenter has many years of experience in higher education as an educator, administrator and serving as interim president of South Carolina State University.
