Jamison a game-time decision for SCSU

Will he play?

It’s the $64,000 question being asked by South Carolina State fans concerning running back Travil Jamison. Laboring with an MCL sprain suffered in the regular-season finale against North Carolina A&T, the Greenville native has spent the past four days rehabilitating the injury in hopes of seeing action in Saturday’s first-round Football Championship Subdivsion playoff matchup against defending three-time champion Appalachian State.

The decision to play or not play Jamision will apparently be a “gametime decision,” according to running backs coach Danny Lewis. S.C. State will hold one more workout today at 11 a.m. at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium before leaving for Boone, N.C., on Friday.

If Jamison is unavailable, Lewis said leading rusher Will Ford will get additional carries, while backups Anthony Campbell and fullback Kenneth Smalls will look to fill the void.

Jamison has thrived in short-yardage situations near the goal line, leading the MEAC with 16 rushing touchdowns. In his absence, Lewis said Ford would get the call and expressed confidence his running backs will step up if necessary.

“If they focus in on Will, we would hope that we would have some other guys to step up,” Lewis said. “Just like if they try to take away (quarterback) Malcolm (Long) or (wide receiver) Trey Young, then Will’s got to step up as well. It’s a team game.”

Saturday’s playoff matchup at Kidd Brewer Stadium will take place at noon.

" True that Pitbull. But you gotta think the defense and someone on offense has to stepup. Coty Martin did it in the past and I hope someone else will do it this year. Go Dawgs! "

" I agree Pit. I think they felt like a high score with a shutout would have given us a better seed into the playoff. I was thinking 48-0 and the starters are still playing was kind of a shallow decision, then I relaxed a little then BAM--Jamision got hurt. Again, Our coaches must stick to the fundamentals and good judgement of coaching. Deviation from these rules causes the injuries risk factor to increase significantly for a player needed for the following week. This should be a lesson learned for our coaches and they should never take this risk again in their career of coaching football. Lets make the best of the situation and beat the Mountaineers. lets kick the liver out em..Go Dawgs. WOOF "

" We were up 48-0 ....Travil shouldn't have been in the game in the first place..... "

South Carolina State tailback Travil Jamison will be a game-time decision for the Bulldogs when they take on App. State Saturday. (BRIAN LINDER/T&D)
