Advent meditation
Thursday, December 04, 2008Meditation ... for the fifth day of Advent
"My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth." -- Psalms 121:2
On Jan. 21, 2008, my husband, Paul, was having a church meeting at our house because the heat at the church was broken. Paul and his Directory Committee were at work in the dining room. I was in the den watching TV. Paul came to the door and said "Call 9-1-1." I knew he was sick, so I called 9-1-1. He knew, being a pharmacist, that it was a heart attack.
My help came from our Christian friends who were with us. The ambulance came; my next door neighbor, a first responder, came. Peggy called her husband, Keith, and asked him to meet us at the hospital. Keith called our minister, who followed us to the hospital. Peggy drove me to the hospital and stayed with me as long as I needed her.
What a blessing! Any other night, we would have been home alone. My help, which comes from the Lord, was in my house that night.
Dear Lord, thank you for Christian friends and neighbors. We are so unworthy of your love and care. Please forgive us. Amen.
