S.C. ETV to eliminate jobs to deal with budget cuts
By The Associated Press Friday, December 05, 2008COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina Educational Television officials say they will cut 15 permanent jobs and 28 temporary positions to help make up a $2 million reduction in state funding.
The state agency said in a news release Thursday that all employees also will have to take three days of unpaid furlough between now and June 30 — the end of the fiscal year.
ETV says it will offer employees an incentive package to leave voluntarily.
About two-thirds of ETV’s budget comes from state funding. This year that amount was $16.5 million but has been cut to just over $14 million. State lawmakers held a special session this fall to adjust agency budgets to make up for a projected shortfall in tax collections of $488 million in the state’s $7 billion spending plan.
