Two Orangeburg men were arrested Tuesday while they were allegedly transporting 55 pounds of marijuana, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers with the Lexington County Multi-Agency Narcotics Enforcement Team and Pine Ridge Police Department made the arrest during a traffic stop.

Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said officers arrested Terry Jerome Frederick, 34, of 737 Partridge Road, Orangeburg, and Berley O’Brian Greene, 34, of 1575 Burch Drive, Orangeburg, on charges of trafficking in marijuana and possessing a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Metts said the arrests were the result of an on-going investigation into drug dealing in the Gaston community.

During the traffic stop, officers saw two large plastic trash bags in the bed of the pickup truck. Metts said officers observed through the open end of the bags that they contained marijuana.

The trash bags allegedly contained 16 plastic zip-lock bags, which each held about one pound of marijuana.

Officers said they also found three bales of marijuana in the cab of the pickup truck, Metts said. Each bale of marijuana weighed about 13 pounds.

Officers seized the 55 pounds of marijuana as well as one shotgun and $956 in cash that the officers also found in the pickup truck, Metts said. Officers are continuing to investigate where and how Frederick and Greene intended to sell the marijuana.

Citizens who want to anonymously report illegal drug activity can call CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or call the NET Hotline at 803-785-8411, Metts said.

"Moma says stupid is as stupid does!"

I think since it was in a garbage bag in plain view they must not have known what they had raked up in the yard was pot.

Or they thought it was legal in other counies like it is in Orangeburg. "

" Hope that they receive a tough penalty if they are convicted.

Maybe we need to do drug offenders like they do in some other countries. What we are doing now has not stemmed drugs in the least. Actually we maybe abetting these crimes more than stopping them. "

" Why are they investigating how or where they planned to sell the dope? Don't they want to find out where they got it from? The fact that the officers could look into an open bag and see the grass shows just how brazen and overconfident these two clowns were! "

" I cannot believe the drug dealers took the drugs out of Orangeburg. Didn't they know they would get caught if they went into the Lexington county area. "
