Hair named county's 'Firefighter of Year'
By LARRY P. JORDAN, T&D Correspondent Thursday, December 18, 2008ST. MATTHEWS - A member of the St. Matthews Fire Department has been named "Firefighter of the Year" by the Calhoun County Firefighters Association.
Tony Hair of the St. Matthews VFD received the honor at the group's annual Christmas Party on Dec. 10. Hair has been a member of the department for three years and holds the rank of firefighter. He has a technical degree in automotive repair and small and large diesel equipment repair.
Hair was cited for serving the department "in many capacities including maintaining department equipment, serving as a member of the Search and Rescue squad, driving an ambulance, working with law enforcement." He is also active in his church and community affairs.
Local officials attending the party included Calhoun County Council Chairman David Summers and County Administrator Lee Prickett.
"I appreciate everything you guys do," Summers said. "Keep up the good work."
Prickett said the firefighters are an asset to Calhoun County.
