Tuesday, December 23, 2008LifePoint, South Carolina's organ procurement organization, held its annual Christmas tree-trimming ceremony Dec. 9 at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.
"The ceremony offers the opportunity for donor families to place an ornament on the tree to remember and honor their loved one who has died and given the gift of life," said Nancy A. Kay, LifePoint president and CEO. "It is also an occasion to thank the Regional Medical Center hospital staff for their commitment and involvement in the donation process."
A liver transplant recipient who received her transplant 17 years ago spoke about the importance of donation at the ceremony. In addition, hospital staff members, LifePoint staff members, an Orangeburg County Coroner's Office representative and other guests participated in the remembrance of those who have saved and improved lives through donation.
The ceremony also honored the hospital staff members who have helped make the donation process possible.
