DENMARK, S.C. - One of South Carolina’s historically black colleges has been picked to participate in a debate series as part of the events surrounding President-elect Barack Obama’s inauguration next month.

Voorhees College will take part in the Jan. 19 event at the Smithsonian Institute. The other schools participating in the event include Fayetteville State University, Wake Forest University, Michigan State University, the University of Southern California and Mary Washington University.

Voorhees College and Fayetteville State University are part of a three-year White House initiative to reconstruct speech and debate teams at historically black colleges and universities.
