Rogers to speak at Voorhees' MLK event
By T&D Staff Friday, January 09, 2009DENMARK -- Former Colorado Lt. Gov. Joe Rogers will be the keynote speaker at Voorhees College's annual Martin Luther King Jr. program later this month.
Rogers, 43, was youngest lieutenant governor in the nation when he took office in 1999. He served in that capacity until 2003 and now practices law in Colorado.
He is the founder of the Dream Alive Program, a national effort dedicated to remembering the legacy of King and other Civil Rights luminaries.
He has won the Trumpet Award, one of the nation's highest honors bestowed in recognition of African American achievement.
He has also served on the seven-member blue ribbon National Commission on the Voting Rights Act.
Rogers has been profiled by The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Washington Times, Business Week, Ebony magazine and Jet magazine.
He is a graduate of Colorado State University and the Arizona State University Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law. Rogers is married with three children.
The event is open to the public and will take place Thursday, Jan. 22, at 11 a.m. in Massachusetts Hall Auditorium on the campus of Voorhees.
