South Carolina State University's United Voices of Christ will compete in the ninth annual Pathmark Gospel Competition on Saturday, Feb. 28, at the World Financial Center Winter Garden in New York.

The Pathmark Gospel Choir Competition will bring top choirs from around the world to New York City to compete for a $10,000 first-place award. For the first time, the Pathmark Gospel Choir Competition will be international, with the addition of a choir from Quebec, Canada.

"United Voices of Christ has become a ministry through song and worship. It has helped many people to develop meaningful relationships with Christ," said Deondra Roper, a member of the United Voices of Christ.

The United Voices of Christ gospel choir was founded on the campus of S.C. State on Nov. 4, 1991, by S.C. State students Vanessa Williams, Derek Evans and Kenneth Windham, who had the desire for all student voices to be united as "one body in Christ." Beginning with 10 students, the United Voices of Christ now has more than 50 members who will be competing for this coveted award.

For more information about the United Voices of Christ, call William Ellis at 803-664-3539.
