DENMARK -- Voorhees College will hold a seminar on oral history preservation from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 5, in Massachusetts Hall Auditorium. The seminar, titled "Preserving our Legacy: An Oral History Tradition Project," is free and open to the public.

Guest speaker will be Sherman Pyatt, the coordinator of Collection Development at the Miller F. Whittaker Library at South Carolina State University. During the seminar, Pyatt will demonstrate the importance of oral history preservation, which involves the proper care and upkeep of oral history materials.

Faculty and staff members at Voorhees are currently conducting extensive research on Voorhees' founder, Elizabeth Evelyn Wright, using oral history preservation. Called the African-American Studies Research Committee, committee members include Dr. Leland Barrows, Samuel Blackwell, Teesa Brunson, Lynda Jefferson, Willie Jefferson, Augusta Kitchen, Dr. Marie Martin, Richard Reid, Dr. Lugenia Rochelle and President Cleveland L. Sellers Jr.

Voorhees will also hold a book review of "From Tuskegee to Voorhees" by Dr. J.F.B. Coleman on Thursday, March 12, in Massachusetts Hall. "From Tuskegee to Voorhees" discusses in detail Wright's journey. The book review will be headed by Sellers.

For more information, call Brunson at 803-780-1194 or e-mail tbrunson@voorhees.edu.
