COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina’s education and health agencies are honoring school nurses in Lexington and Greenville.

Jessica Porter, a registered nurse at Oak Grove Elementary, was named Monday as school nurse of the year.

Jackie Dickert, a school nurse at Greenville Middle Academy, has been named the school health licensed practical nurse of the year.

State officials say Porter has helped teach healthy habits through events such as “walk to school day” and “turn off the TV” campaigns. Officials say her ability to speak fluent Spanish allows her to help Hispanic families get involved in their children’s education.

Officials say Dickert is also the girls’ soccer coach. Her work has helped students get dental care and set up flu vaccine clinics for staff.
