COLUMBIA -- Research indicates that one in three teens experience some type of abuse in their relationships, and 80 percent of teen girls stay in abusive relationships. Only 54 percent of these teens report dating violence to their parents or their peers. With the recent highly publicized conflict between pop superstars Chris Brown and Rihanna, domestic violence among young adolescent couples is becoming more prevalent.

At 3 p.m. Sunday, April 5, ETV Connections will air "Couples Who Fight." Hosted by P.A. Bennett, this program examines the dynamics of teen dating violence, with prevention tips and insights for parents and their families.

Joseph King, a mental health counselor, and Tammy Thomas, domestic violence coordinator for S.C. Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, will join more than a dozen Columbia-area students in discussing the topic.

Connections is ETV's weekly public affairs program and online discussion about issues that affect the minority population. From entrepreneurship to education to health and history, the program provides an opportunity for minorities to have a voice.
