Fields selected second team All-SAC

Rob Fields, a former Orangeburg-Wilkinson hoops standout, has been selected to the South Atlantic Conference’s second-team.

Fields, currently a member of the Catawba College Indians basketball team, is a junior shooting guard for the team. Fields led the Indians this season with 16 points per game and led the team in free-throw percentage at 82 percent.

In the Indians two Division II playoff games this year, Fields scored 17 points and was 17-of-17 from the free-throw line in a 74-67 win over Armstrong Atlantic. In a loss to USC Aiken, Fields finished 24 points. He was also selected to the all-tournament team for the Southeast Regionals.

S.C. State softball hosts Bethune-Cookman

The S.C. State softball team will host Bethune-Cookman this weekend. The series, which begins with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday, will be played at Lady Bulldog Field on the campus of S.C. State. The series will conclude with a single-game on Sunday beginning at noon. All S.C. State Softball home games are free and open to the public.

Claflin Baseball

The Claflin Panthers baseball team (12-21) will take on Kentucky State in a doubleheader today against Kentucky State at Mirmow Field.

Action is set to get underway at 1 p.m.

Kountryside Golf Tournament

Kountryside Golf Course will hold its annual Masters Tournament on Saturday, April 11 at 9 a.m.

Cost is $35 and will include greens and cart fee as well as lunch. Each golfer’s score will be combined with the Sunday score of the name you drew from the Masters to determine the winner. Call 803-536-5888 for more information.

Orangeburg Christian 10, Step of Faith 0 (Final/5 innings)

Tanner Dukes pitched a shutout on his very first appearance as a member of the OCA. The seventh-grader recorded four strikeouts in five innings.

OCA (7-3) will be in action on April 14 against Abundant Life at 4:30 p.m. in Hardeeville.

Holly Hill Academy 8, St. John’s 0

MONCKS CORNER - Jonathan McWaters (1-1) was the winning pitcher for the Raiders. Jay Roberts took the loss for St. John’s.

Justin Brownlee led the way with 3-for-4 with doubles and six RBIs. Zach Brownlee was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Jon Tweed was 2-for-2 in the win.

HHA (7-5) will host Calhoun Academy at 7 p.m. on April 14.

Varsity Softball

Holly Hill Academy 7, Spring Valley 5


AIKEN - Katie Carpenter was the winning pitcher in the Lady Raiders’ first game at the Triple Crown Invitational.

Carpenter was also 2-for-4 in the win. Taylor Owens was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Morgan Cantley, Kalyn Weatherford, Emma Rush and Rebecca Mizell each recorded a hit.

HHA improves to 15-6.

Fox Creek 4, Branchville 2


N. AUGUSTA - After a Yellow Jackets goal was called back, Fox Creek added to penalty kick goals to seal the victory over Branchville.

Willie Brown scored both goals for the Yellow Jackets in the loss.

Branchville (4-4) will travel to Bamberg-Ehrhardt at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
