NORFOLK, Va. – The S.C. State women’s softball team dropped a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) doubleheader Saturday to Norfolk State University, 0-7, 1-9, at the Lady Spartan Field on the campus of Norfolk State University.

S.C. State, (3-21 overall, 0-8 MEAC), began Game One with a lot of offense as the first four batters successfully reached base via hits. Despite having bases loaded in its half of the inning, the Lady Bulldogs could not capitalize, ending the inning with no runs while leaving three players stranded.

Norfolk State (14-20 overall, 2-5 MEAC) got on the scoreboard first as Jeanetta Sauceda hit a homerun followed by double by Brianeisha Eure and an RBI single by Jamie Raab in the bottom of the third inning to give the Spartans a 2-0 lead. Norfolk State went on to score four runs in the fourth inning and one run in the sixth inning, to take Game One, 7-0.

The Lady Bulldogs found little offense in Game Two as they had just one run (Channell Thompson homered to centerfield) off three hits. The Lady Spartans scored three runs in the second, two runs in the third, three runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth inning to secure the 9-1 victory.

Alyssa Velazquez was the winner in both games, while Kimberlee Pereira was the loser in both.

The Lady Bulldogs and Spartans will conclude the three-game series Sunday at noon.

GAME NOTES: S.C. State junior Channell Thompson hit her first home run of the season ... NSU’s Amelia Lewis hit two home runs on the day.
