Thursday, April 16, 2009The Claflin University Concert Choir will hold its annual spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 20, in the James and Dorothy Z. Elmore Chapel on the campus of Claflin.
The concert, which will be recorded live, will feature classical selections, spirituals and music written and arranged by African-American composers. The concert will also feature selections from the 2008 China Tour. Members of the concert choir will sing in Latin, Chinese and Spanish.
"We travel and perform across the country throughout the year, but singing at Claflin is always the highlight of the year," said Dr. Isaiah McGee, the choir's director. "The choir members work extremely hard, and we invite the community to come out and enjoy this event."
The Claflin University Concert Choir participates in a variety of on-campus activities and community events, as well as an annual spring tour. Recently, the choir was invited to join a Choral Tribute to open the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China. They also have a CD titled "Hehlehlooyuh." The choir is open to all students.
Monday's concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call McGee at 803-535-5234 or e-mail imcgee@claflin.edu.
