Local firms among companies honored for workplace safety
Monday, April 20, 2009COLUMBIA – More than 400 company locations from across South Carolina were honored for making workplace safety a priority.
The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce hosted the 2008 Safety Awards lunch-eon on March 25, presented by Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C., at the Radisson Columbia.
The Safety Awards are presented based on companies achieving a commendable lost workday case rate during 2008.
“The business community salutes these great companies that work diligently to make their workplace environments safe. We are proud these conscientious companies call our state home,” said Otis B. Rawl Jr., president and chief executive officer of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce.
Mike Fisher, managing director of NASCAR’s Research and Development Center, joined the Safety Awards to present the keynote address. Fisher assumed his new role with NASCAR in September of 2006 and worked 16 years in the automotive industry prior to joining NASCAR.
