By T&D Staff Wednesday, May 06, 2009An Orangeburg physician was in critical condition at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston on Tuesday, one day after being injured in a traffic accident near the Regional Medical Center.
Dr. David C. Chen, who was driving a 1999 four-door Toyota, was attempting a left turn from a private drive on Cook Road at around 6:40 p.m. Monday, according to Lance Cpl. Scot Edgeworth, a spokesman for the S.C. Highway Patrol. Chen’s vehicle was struck on the front left side by Sharon Brunson, who was traveling east on Cook Road in a 2005 Toyota SUV, Edgeworth said. Brunson was treated for her injuries at the RMC, the trooper said.
The weather was rainy and bad, Edgeworth said. The wreck is still under investigation.
Chen, who practices obstetrics/gynecology in Orangeburg, is an active member of the RMC medical staff. A graduate of Taipei Medical College in Taipei, Taiwan, he did his internship and residency at hospitals in Brooklyn, N.Y.
