Kaison Smoak, a junior art student at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School, has been named winner of the Sixth District Congressional Art Competition, sponsored by U.S. House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn.

Smoak's prismacolor pencil drawing, titled "Self Portrait with Classmates," will be displayed on Capitol Hill for the next year in the corridor that connects the Capitol building with the U.S. House of Representatives offices.

"The entries this year showcased the work of some of the most talented young artists from the Sixth Congressional District," Clyburn said. "Due to the uniqueness and detail of each submission, our review panel had a very difficult time selecting the winning piece."

Smoak is the 13th student from O-W to win the art competition in the 14 years Clyburn has sponsored the event. Smoak will travel to Washington, D.C., June 24 for a national recognition ceremony.

As the winner of the art competition, Smoak is also eligible for a $1,500 annual scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design.
