'BE CREATIVE @ YOUR LIBRARY!' Summer reading program kicks off Friday at OCL
Thursday, June 18, 2009"Be Creative @ Your Library!" is the theme for Orangeburg County Library's 2009 Summer Vacation Reading Program starting countywide Monday, June 22.
The program begins with the singing storyteller Bob Linsenmayer on Friday, June 19. During the program, children will be encouraged to read books and participate in making music with Linsenmayer. His performances will be at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. in the Orangeburg County Library Meeting Room for children 4 to 12 years old, accompanied by parents. It will also be an early sign-up day for those who will have their reading contract at the main library.
Children joining the Summer Vacation Reading Program can use this opportunity to keep and improve their reading skills before the new school year. Children receive recognition for independent reading, and adults can read to children not yet reading on their own. Weekly guessing games for children 8 to 12 years of age give older children an entertaining way to try their guesstimation power while learning the concept of amount and volume.
Official registration for "Be Creative @ Your Library" begins Monday, June 22, at the Orangeburg County Library, the Bookmobile, or any branch library -- Holly Hill Branch, Mentor Branch in Elloree, North Branch and the Branchville Branch Library operating from the Bookmobile at the Branchville stop. The last day to sign up is July 17.
"Be Creative @ Your Library!" continues for six weeks until July 31, with a final prize drawing for all children who reach their summer reading goals. The program is open to children 4 to 12 years old, accompanied by parents.
