Two employees of the Family Health Center Inc. snagged state awards during a South Carolina Primary Health Care Association Clinical Retreat.

April Parler, a radiology technician at the FHC, was named Clinical Support Staff Member of the Year. Patricia Armstrong, a pediatric nurse practitioner at the state's largest community health center, was named Provider of the Year.

A graduate of Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College, Parler went on to graduate summa cum laude from Claflin University. She is currently pursuing a master's degree at Claflin University. Parler has been with FHC for four years. She and her husband, Jay, are the parents of four children.

Armstrong received her undergraduate degree from North Carolina A&T State University. She went on to earn her master's degree from the University of South Carolina, Columbia. Armstrong has been employed with FHC for 16 years.

The FHC is designated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as a federally qualified health center. FHC serves patients in Orangeburg, Calhoun, Bamberg and upper Dorchester counties.
