SLED: No 'wrong-doing' by Sanford

According to Reggie Lloyd of The S.C. Law Enfocement Division, Gov. Mark Sanford has not misused state funds.

In the 2 p.m. conference, Lloyd said the governor's travel documentation was reviewed, the governor was cooperative and that there was no "wrong-doing."

Lloyd said there were no public funds used by Sanford in connection with his affair. He also said this was not a criminal investigation and that at no time did SLED's investigation turn into a criminal case.

"At no time did SLED learn any information, facts or evidence that would suggest a crime was committed," Lloyd said.

According to Lloyd, the nearly $3,300 Sanford paid the state Tuesday in reimbursment for his latest excusion to Argentina was done for appearances, not legal reasons.

State Attorney General Henry McMaster called for the investigation Tuesday after the governor revealed that he met with his Argentinean mistress more times than he previously admitted.

Gov. Mark Sanford delivered a personal checks for nearly $3,300 to reimburse the state for a 2008 state-funded trip to Argentina where he visited his mistress and he insists no public money was used for any other meetings with her.

Sanford's Communications Director Joel Sawyer said after the 2 p.m. conference that the governor's office was pleased with results and would now release travel records the governor refused to release earlier in the week.

"We're pleased that SLED has concluded its review, which confirms what we've said from day one * no public money was used in relation to the governor's admitted marital infidelity. This issue is behind us once and for all."

"Now that SLED has finished its review, we believe it appropriate to also release the governor's personal travel records to the media, so that there can be full and complete disclosure and transparency."

" PS: Some State Officials carry a "PCARD" issued by the State. Was this one, if it was a "PCARD account? "

" SLED couldn't find their way out of an open paper bag! They wouldn't even investigate SCSU's previous VP of Finance AFTER he was CAUGHT stealing money after he was reinstated. "

" Let's see: he drove his state issued/owned vehicle to the airport; Does that constitute an expenditure of state funds (the vehicle, the fuel, parking, etc, etc) . . . "

" Yeah right Reggie. Reggie you either "in wit it," or "blind wit it." I hope you go far young man. Does this means we got an extra $3300 in the budget now? "

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford pauses after apologizing to his state agency chiefs for keeping them in the dark when he went to Argentina to see his mistress Friday, June 26, 2009, in Columbia, S.C.
