Woman alerts police after obscene calls
By T&D Staff Saturday, July 11, 2009An Orangeburg woman called police this week after receiving another obscene phone call.
The woman said she received the initial call on June 8. When she picked up, a man’s voice began moaning and breathing heavy, she said. He then said he wanted to have sexual relations with her, the report said.
On Sunday, the woman received another call from the same number. She did not answer the call. Instead she called police.
In other reports:
* A North Carolina man was arrested after giving a fake name to police when he was stopped for speeding.
Police clocked a vehicle traveling 50 in a 35 mph. zone on Broughton Street and stopped the car, the report said. The driver said he was on his way to Georgia and had left his wallet at home
The officer asked the man for his name and birth date, which were run through the South Carolina and North Carolina DMV offices with no results. The officer then called the North Carolina DMV and a clerk ran a search that turned up a different name than the one the man gave. When the officer asked the man his Social Security number, it matched the name found by the North Carolina clerk after her search. When the correct information on the subject was tracked through the South Carolina DMV, it came back as “driver’s license suspended.”
When the subject was arrested, a wallet was found inside the vehicle. It contained a South Carolina identification card with the man’s correct ID.
Jakovian Rashawn Horton, 35, of Lenior, N.C., was charged with driving under suspension.
* Police are looking for a man who bailed out of a car and ran off after a traffic stop late Thursday.
An officer clocked a vehicle doing 62 in a 45 m.p.h. zone on Columbia Road at around 10:57 p.m. The officer stopped the vehicle near Glenfield Apartments. However, as the officer approached the vehicle, the driver “hit the gas, spinning tires and sped into the apartment complex,” according to the report.
When the vehicle got to the back of the complex, a man jumped out of the still rolling Pontiac and ran off, the report said. Police searched the area but could not find the man.
The Pontiac was towed. Its registration came back to an Orangeburg woman who said her child’s father had the car.
* A Murray Road man went to jail Thursday after police stopped a vehicle for running a red light. Police saw a green Hyundai run through a stop light at the intersection of Broughton and Glover streets at around 7:12 p.m. When they stopped the car, they discovered the man driving the car had no license due to an accumulation of points.
The 22-year-old was charged with driving under suspension and failing to obey a traffic control device.
* A Bamberg man reported his vehicle stolen from the Camelot Theater parking lot Wednesday.
The man said he left his purple 1996 GMC Yukon in the parking lot at around 7 p.m. When he returned about an hour and a half later, the $4,500 vehicle as missing.
* A West Virginia man staying at a St., Matthews Road hotel Thursday reported his travel trailer broken into.
The man said that at about 9:30 a.m. he learned his U-Haul trailer had been burglarized. He said it was fine the night before, but an employee of Hampton Inn where he was staying informed him a door on the trailer was open.
The man said clothing and luggage worth about $3,500 was missing from the trailer.
Deputies checked security cameras of the business, but they only showed the man’s truck, not his trailer.
* A Holly Hill man reported his personal watercraft stolen from his property Thursday. The man said his blue and white 2001 Bombardier was taken from his back yard.
A neighbor said a red Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck was seen earlier in the area driving slowly past the man’s house.
A BOLO was put out on the $6,000 vehicle. DNR was notified as well.
* A Whittaker Parkway woman notified deputies Thursday after discovering her air conditioner missing after her home was burglarized.
The woman said that at around 7 p.m., she returned home and found that someone had thrown a block through a glass door. She then noticed a washer and dryer set and a refrigerator had been moved to her carport as if someone were planning on coming back at a later time to retrieve them. The home’s air-conditioning unit had been damaged as well, she said.
Damage to the home is estimated to be about $5,300.
* A Buck Ridge Road man reported his trailer stolen Thursday. The man said his 5-foot by 8-foot trailer, bearing a red Craftsman 4000 series riding mower, was missing. The $2,500 trailer and mower had been chained to a pole.
