The weekend promises to be typical weather for the season: Highs in the 90s with roughly a 50-50 chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon each day. It IS August in South Carolina.

There are lots of activities:

Lamman Rucker, the star of the TBS sitcom "Tyler Perry's Meet The Browns, will be featured at the fourth annual M.A. Lee Scholarship Fund Gala at 6 p.m. Saturday at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center at South Carolina State University. Tickets are $35 at maleescholarship.org

Baseball is hot in the sports world, with the Atlanta Braves playing host this weekend to the West Division-leading Los Angeles Dodgers. Saturday's 4 p.m. game is a Fox broadcast. ESPN has the two matched up Sunday night at 8.

NASCAR's Spring Cup series is at the Pennsylvania 500 at 3:30 p.m. Sunday on ESPN2.

On the big screen, Adam Sandler is back in "Funny People."

And if you're looking for something a bit different, Riverbanks Zoo and Garden in Columbia is the site for the annual Brew at the Zoo, a beer-tasting event from 7-9:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for zoo members and $35 for non-members. They are $45 at the door.
