Sunday, August 16, 2009April Simmons and Carl Dickson, both of Orangeburg, S.C., were united in marriage at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2009, at New Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Orangeburg S.C.
The bride is the daughter of Ms. Olivia Glover of Orangeburg and Mr. Paul Simmons of Orangeburg. She is the granddaughter of Rev. James Glover, Jr., of Bowman, S.C. and the late Mrs. Lillian Glover and the late Rev. and Mrs. Effie Simmons of Williston, S.C.
The bridegroom is the son of Rev. Dr. Betty Buskey of Orangeburg and Mr. Marion Dickson of Stanford, CT. He is the grandson of the late Mr. Clarence Sistrunk; the late Ms. Mildred Taylor; the late Ms. Daisy Dickson and the late Mr. Sam Mays.
Officiating the ceremony was Rev. Jerome Anderson, pastor of couple and Rev. T.E. Simmons, uncle of bride.
The bride was given in marriage by her parents.
Maids of honor were Tara Simmons of Lexington, S.C., sister of bride and Kenita Pitts of Orangeburg, best friend of bride.

The bride wore an Allure Diamond White, Ivory & Silver strapless A-line, sweetheart neckline floor length, chapel train gown embellished with genuine Swarovski crystal beading. The bride’s accessories included a gentle peak curved Tiara designed with sparkling rhinestones and hand cut Genuine Swarovski Crystals with matching necklace and earrings.
The groom wore a tailor made 3 button style, Single-breasted peak lapel with button hook lapels. 2 real button hook holes on both lapels. Creme hand-pick stitching on the border. One welt breast pocket, four besom waist pockets. Dual pen pockets and IPod pocket with ticket holder pockets on both sides. Inverted pleat in the back and hand pick stitching. 4 button cuffs, dual vents with button hooks and hand pick stitching. Button cuffed pant with a fully lined Bember blend jacket. Supper 140’s wool vested fabric.
Following the ceremony a reception was held at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center in Orangeburg.
After a wedding trip to Key West, FL, the couple will reside Orangeburg.
Mrs. Dickson is a 1995 graduate of Edisto High School and 1998 graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Funeral services with a degree in Mortuary Sciences. She is currently employed at Glover’s Funeral Home as a Directress and Mortician and O-W High School Junior Varsity Cheerleading Coach.
Mr. Dickson is a 1992 graduate of Glynn Academy and 2001 graduate of the National Academy of Health and Fitness. He is currently owner and Personal Trainer of New Image Personal Training and Fitness Center.
