Reminiscing about a simpler time
Sunday, August 30, 2009On Sept. 25-26, the class of 1984 will come together for a weekend of reminiscing about a time when life was much simpler. Sure it was only 25 years ago, but lots of things have changed since then.
25 years ago there was no text messaging, e-mails, voice mails, caller ID or call waiting. People actually made phone calls and wrote letters! Phone calls were not made on cell phones, but on real home phones with cords attached to a wall. Letters were put in an envelope and mailed with a stamp, not typed on a computer where you just press a button for instant delivery.
25 years ago, gas was $1.20, Levi jeans were $14.99, a movie ticket was $3.75 and a Whopper was $1.75. We also bought albums, no I-Tunes, for $6.99.
25 years ago, we didn’t have the Internet on personal computers to look up information with a “snap” of a finger. We actually had to go to what they use to call a library and do research in a card catalog. If we had the Worldwide Web back then, I would not have had a set of 300-pound Encyclopedia Britannica at home.
One thing is for certain, no matter how far we have come in technology in trying to simplify our lives, we still rely on the interaction between each other. Time has passed and things have become more complex in our lives, but we will once again come together as friends from the past.
If you are part of this class of 1984 and you want to reminisce about a simpler time in life, contact me.
