ELLOREE -- The Lake Marion area is a paradise for fishermen and hunters, whether locals or visitors. The Elloree Heritage Museum and Cultural Center will focus on this facet of outdoor recreation with its upcoming Sportsmen's Showcase.

The event, which will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, will feature local sportsmen who will discuss the legends and lore of Elloree's and Santee's rich history of outdoor pursuits in an informal, relaxed social gathering.

Tales and artifacts from the old Elloree Hunt Club and Santee rock fishing will be included in the program, and participants will be served a tasting of catfish stew.

In addition, the museum gallery will feature an exhibit of local historic hunting and fishing photos, which will remain on display until October.

"This event is free. Reservations are not required, and the public is invited to attend this educational and enjoyable event," said Adadra Williams, administrative manager of the museum.

"Bring along your own pictures, stories and artifacts, and come reminisce about the golden era of outdoor sporting."
