Touchdown Club to meet today

The Orangeburg Touchdown Club will meet at the Cinema in the Old Orangeburg Mall today.

Calhoun Academy’s Jordan Rucker will be honored as the Offensive Player of the Week; Orangeburg Prep linebacker Thacker Staley will be honored as the Defensive Player of the Week. John Daye will be the guest speaker.

Doors are scheduled to open at 11:30 a.m.

College volleyball

Pantherettes to Face Voorhees season opener

The Claflin University volleyball team opens its season at the Jonas T. Kennedy Center tonight at 6 p.m. with a match against the Lady Tigers of Voorhees College.

Coach Vernell Keitt-Capers is looking forward to this season as the Pantherettes try to improve on last years 18-14 campaign.

Claflin is returning six starters from last year’s team, with setter Toi Haynes-Shelman responsible for getting the ball to outside hitters Deisha Rivers and Tashia Stewart. Jessica Myles along with Laquana Black will anchor the defense as Imani Riley-Calhoun will be looked upon to hit and block in the middle. Newcomers Faith Simmons and Trinisha Harp are expected to play significant roles in helping the Pantherettes improve on their fourth place finish of the 2008 season.

Varsity Volleyball

Lady Yellow Jackets split trimatch with Hanahan and Fort D

HANAHAN - Branchville was defeated by Hanahan in their opening contest of the trimatch 27-25, 25-14.

Kaitlin Felder led the way for Branchville with seven points, six kills, four aces and two blocks.

Branchville went on to defeat Fort Dorchester 25-12, 25-22.

Miranda Nichols was the top scorer for the Lady Yellow Jackets with 12 points, eight assists, and five aces.

Branchville (3-2) will face Edisto at home today . The B-Team will begin play at 4 p.m.

B-Team Football

Holly Hill-Roberts Middle 34, Lee County Middle 0

SANTEE – Alex Brown had 110 yards rushing with two rushing touchdowns.

Darius James had 84 yards receiving and a touchdown. Dontrevyan Jones had 75 receiving yards and a touchdown reception. Trevon Mack added 75 rushing yards and two 2-point conversion. Deroante Jenkins tallied over 200 yards and two touchdown passes.

Defensively, Anderson Owens had eight tackles. Jones also returned an interception for a touchdown with eight tackles. Mack had six tackles.

Holly Hill-Roberts (1-0) will travel to Timberland on Tuesday.

Edisto Athletic Booster Club

Will meet Monday at 7:30 p.m. on Monday in the Commons Area for ”Meet the Cougars” night. All JV and Varsity Fall sports athletes and cheerleaders will be honored and introduced. Refreshments will be served. Members and parents are urged to attend.
