Bamberg-Ehrhardt 42, Bethune-Bowman 8

ROWESVILLE - There was no letdown suffered by the second-ranked Red Raiders as they remained undefeated in Region 5-A play.

The Red Raiders moved the football on their opening drive all the way to the Bethune-Bowman 8. They were going to settle for a 24-yard field goal by Randon Sandifer, but a roughing the kicker penalty extended the drive for Demetrius Williams’ two-yard touchdown run with 4:11 left in the first quarter.

B-E broke the game open in the first three minutes of the second quarter with three touchdowns. The first two scores came courtesy of fumble recoveries as defensive lineman Justin Henderson pounced on a botched handoff by Bethune-Bowman in the end zone for a touchdown and Carl Anthony Williams scooped up another and returned it 10 yards for another score.

Demetrius Williams then added a one-yard touchdown run with 9:22 left in the second quarter to make it 28-0. A third recovered fumble by the Red Raiders led to a six-yard touchdown run by O’Keefe Jones to push the lead to 35-0 with 7:47 left in the first half.

The third quarter saw Sandifer complete a nine-yard touchdown pass to Michael Johnson with 5:10 left in the third quarter.

B-E’s shutout bid ended with 6:16 remaining when Nkosi Hollman intercepted a pass and returned it 60 yards for a touchdown. The Mohawks added a two-point conversion when quarterback Nick Jones hit Fabian Williams in the end zone to close out the scoring.

Tyrone Fairey rushed for 75 yards on seven carries and Octavious Council had 63 yards on six carries for Bethune-Bowman. Ashton Robinson led the Mohawk defense with 11 tackles, followed by Josh Matthews with eight.

B-E (7-0, 3-0) plays host to Allendale-Fairfax on Oct. 16, while Bethune-Bowman (3-4, 2-2) faces St. John’s in a non-region contest.

Lexington 49,O-W 30

Two weeks ago, it was Irmo running back Mustafa Greene who ran rampant against the Bruins.

On Friday, O-W was hit at home by a ‘Shaq Attack’ from another highly-recruited college prospect. Quarteback Shaq Roland rushed for five touchdowns and Lexington scored on two kickoff return to earn its seventh straight win over the Bruins.

Lexington (3-4, 2-1) jumped out to a 14-0 lead before O-W (2-5, 0-3) scored on a touchdown pass by Joshua Charles to Melvin Clark. The Wildcats stretched their lead to 35-14 at halftime and led as many as 28 points in the second half.

O-W embarks on a two-game road trip starting Oct. 16 at Aiken.

C.A. Johnson 40,North 6

NORTH -- Devonta James rushed for 103 yards and totaled 203 yards on punt and kick returns in a losing effort to the Hornets (6-1, 4-0) Friday.

The Eagles (2-5, 1-3) travel to Norway to challenge Hunter Kinard-Tyler on Oct. 16.

Dorchester Academy 38,Robert E. Lee Academy 14

BISHOPVILLE - Thomas McAlhaney rushed for 130 yards on 15 carries and three touchdowns and younger brother Nick added two scores to give the Raiders a Region 2-AA-opening victory on Friday.

Dorchester Academy (6-1) scored the first 25 points of the contest to give head coach career win 293. McAlhaney opened up the scoring with a two-yard run, followed by an 18-yard touchdown scamper by Nick in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, McAlhaney completed a 14-yard touchdown pass by Jamie Collins to make it 19-0 at halftime.

For the game, Nick McAlhaney was 7-13 passing for 126 yards and rushed for 17 yards on 12 carries.

After a 10-yard scoring run by Jake Berry, who finished with 171 rushing yards on nine carries, made it 25-0 in the third quarter, Robert E. Lee Academy (4-4, 1-2) got on the board after Kyle Johnson recovered a fumble and returned it 25 yards for a touchdown.

Thomas McAlhaney answered with two rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter to make it 38-6 before the Cavaliers scored with 59 seconds left.

Defensively, Michael Gruber led Dorchester Academy with nine tackles, followed by Thomas McAlhaney with six tackles and a sack.

The Raiders play host to Calhoun Academy on Oct. 16.

Holly Hill Academy 47, Coastal Christian Prep 0

MT. PLEASANT - Zack Lawley was 5-9 passing for 151 yards and two touchdowns in the blowout win Friday.

Tyler James had a 56-yard touchdown reception while Elias Dupree was on the receiving end of a 39-yard scoring pass.

Travis Spence also added two touchdown runs and Justin Brownlee, Willie Nichols and Stephen Eaddy each tacked on scoring runs as well. Defensively, Blake Strickland recorded five tackles.

Holly Hill Academy (6-2, 5-0) travel to Moncks Corner Oct. 16 to face St. John’s Christian Academy.

Colleton Prep 49,Calhoun Academy 6

ST. MATTHEWS - Senior running back Parker Headly rushed for 204 yards in the first half as the Warhawks (6-2, 4-0) handed the Cavaliers their fourth straight loss on Friday.

Calhoun Academy’s lone touchdown came on a three-yard touchdown reception by Matt Arant with 6:03 left in the second quarter.

The Cavaliers (3-4, next travel to St. George on Oct. 16 to face Dorchester Academy.

Sickness forces JDA to forfeit

The persistent flu virus made Jefferson Davis Academy the latest prep football team forced to forfeit a game.

Friday’s contest against SCISA 8-man frontrunner Wardlaw Academy (7-0, 3-0) was cancelled after the Raiders were unable to field a team due to illness. JDA (3-4, 0-2) will look to return to action for ‘Homecoming’ Oct. 16 against Beaufort Academy.
