CHARLESTON -- In a survey rating 30 popular American cities, Charleston has struck a chord with travelers. When compared to other top destinations such as Chicago, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and more, Charleston was honored with numerous distinctions.

The Holy City scored well, grabbing the No. 1 spot for B&Bs/Inns and Thanksgiving travel. The area also ranked in the top five in a range of categories, including Attractive People, Friendly People, Antique + Vintage Shops, Historical Sites/Monuments, Farmer's Markets, Romantic Escape and Stylish Boutique Hotels, among others.

Frank Fredericks, marketing chairman of the Board of Governors for the Charleston Convention & Visitors Bureau, responded to the accolades, saying, "These distinctions further solidify Charleston's reputation as a destination offering an array of experiences for every traveler."

Complete results from Travel + Leisure's 2009 America's Favorite Cities can be found online at TravelandLeisure.com and in the November issue of Travel + Leisure, available on newsstands Oct. 23.
