Country club will be grand surprise
Saturday, October 24, 2009I have read with interest the several letters and articles concerning the remodeling of the Orangeburg Country Club. I was a member of the club years ago when my kids were young. Also, I am a musician and have performed at the club on many occasions. I am aware that everyone is entitled to his/her opinion and would like to express mine.
I have remodeled an old house and am aware of the fact that you can create a big mess before a project of that nature is complete. And, yes, the club complex is a complete wreck at this point! It is like climbing the stem of a rose bush. It is a thorny way to the top; but once you get there, the view is beautiful.
I have eaten at the Four Moons restaurant and can assure you that the lounge/bar area, as well as the food, is reminiscent of a luxury cruise ship. I have never met Mr. Tourville. However, if the Four Moons is any indication of the attention that will be given to the country club, we are all in store for a grand, elegant and beautiful surprise.
I am CONFIDENT that someone will use their expertise or seek the advice of an acoustical engineer in designing the ballroom. It is notorious among musicians for not having the best acoustics in the world. Also, there is no convenient way to get musical equipment in and out of the ballroom (hint). I say this because these considerations have been left out of the plans in many clubs and hotels. (They look good, but you sound terrible!)
I just hope somebody will hire me to perform in the club once it is complete. I know that would be a treat for me.
