Funderburk - Brooks
Sunday, October 25, 2009Virginia West Funderburk and George Robert Brooks, Jr., both of Columbia, S.C., were united in marriage on Saturday, October 24, 2009, at half past five in the afternoon at the mother of the bride’s residence in Orangeburg, S.C.
The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Kathryn T. Funderburk of Orangeburg and the late Dr. Marshall Stewart Funderburk, Jr. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bill Thornhill; the late Mr. Marshall Stewart Funderburk, Sr. and Mrs. Marshall Stewart Funderburk, Sr., of Cheraw, S.C.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Robert Brooks, Sr., of Orangeburg. He is the grandson of Mrs. James W. Collier, Jr., of Orangeburg; the late Mr. James W. Collier, Jr., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Edward Brooks, Sr.
Officiating the ceremony was Dr. Rev. Mike Smith.
The bride was given in marriage by her family.
Maid of honor was Falon Elizabet Tilley of Columbia, friend of the bride.
Bridesmaids were Jessica McCall of Brevard, N.C., fiance of the bride’s brother and Kate Pratt of Charleston, S.C., friend of bride and groom.
Honorary attendants were Elizabeth Darden of Dallas, TX, sister of the bride and Andrea Lantz of Greenville, S.C., sister of groom.
The groom’s father served as best man.
The bride was escorted by her brother, Marshall Stewart Funderburk, III, of Brevard.
Flower girls were Olivia Lauren Lantz and Mary Catherine Lantz of Greenville, nieces of groom.
Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride’s mother in Orangeburg.
After a wedding trip to St. Lucia the couple will reside in Columbia.
Mrs. Brooks is a graduate of Wingate University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music; a graduate of Queens University in Charlotte, N.C., with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Therapy. She recently completed music therapy internship working within the psychiatric department at Palmetto Health Baptist. She is currently employed as a PKN for music therapy at Palmetto Health Baptist in Columbia.
Mr. Brooks is a graduate of Midlands Technical College with an Associates degree. He is currently employed at Architrave, an architectural firm in Columbia.
