SUMTER -- The Holly Hill Academy Lady Raiders volleyball team fell short of a return trip to the SCISA Class AA state title game with a 2-1 loss to Spartanburg Christian Saturday.

HHA won both of its matches on Friday, but dropped its first game of the day Saturday to Oakbrook. In that contest, HHA won the first game 25-18, but lost game two 25-21 and game three 25-23. Holly Hill then moved to the losers bracket in the Upper State where it defeated St. Andrews 2-1 with scores of 25-23, 22-25 and 25-9.

After a 15-minute break, HHA was forced to face Spartanburg Christian. In the first game, HHA won 25-20, but Spartanburg took the next two games 30-28 and 25-12 to send the Lady Raiders home.

Leading the Lady Raiders in the second day of the tournament were seniors Wehme Carolyn Hutto with 55 kills, 50 digs, seven aces and four blocks; setter Katlin Rush who provided 75 assists, 16 digs, five aces and two kills. Defensively, Katie Dickson had 45 serve receives and 42 digs; Emily Watkins contributed 24 kills, 24 digs, five blocks and two aces, Sara Shuler had 24 kills, 17 digs, six blocks and an ace, Chelsea Nester tallied 24 digs, four kills and three aces and Kayla Crider produced 17 digs, four kills and an ace.

The Lady Raiders lose only three seniors: five-year starter Wehme Carolyn Hutto, who tallied her 1,000th career kill and 1,000th career dig in the weeks leading up to the tournament, three-year starter Katlin Rush and Britten Dasta.
