 Varsity Volleyball Playoffs

Edisto 3, Woodland 0


CORDOVA -- Hailey Carson had 20 points, 13 aces and five kills to lead Edisto to a 25-10, 25-4, 25-9 win.

Ashley Gallman added 16 points, six aces, five assists and three kills for Edisto; Taylor Smoak had 10 points, six aces and two kills.

Edisto (17-0) will host a second-round playoff game Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Branchville 3, Military Magnet 0

BRANCHVILLE -- Miranda Nichols had 17 points, 11 aces and 10 assists to lead Branchville past Military Magnet 25-7, 25-7, 25-15.

Branchville improved to 22-5 on the season, and will host either Lake View or Scott’s Branch Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Reeves Connelly had 92 rushing yards, and Cameron Thompson rushed for 58 yards and two touchdowns in the loss for OPS.

Christopher Etters added both extra points for the Indians. On defense, Matthew Berry had 14 tackles for OPS; Derrick Andrews had four tackles and an interception, Charlie Sutcliffe had eight tackles and three fumble recoveries and Will Reynolds had 13 tackles.

OPS fell to Porter-Gaud last Thursday, 37-19. In that game, Reed Grubbs had 111 passing yards and two touchdowns. Berry had 102 receiving yards and two touchdowns, Thompson had 60 rushing yards and a touchdown. On defense, Reynolds had 13 tackles and a fumble recovery. Connelly and Nick Garrick had 13 tackles.

OPS (4-5) will host Ben Lippen Thursday.

Calhoun Academy wraps up season


ST. MATTHEWS -- The Calhoun Academy Cavaliers middles school team wrapped up a perfect 6-0 season last Thursday with a 28-26 win over Robert E. Lee.

Calhoun had wins over Florence Christian, Hilton Head Prep, Orangeburg Prep, Thomas Heyward and Dorchester Academy as well this season.

Shepard Named to SIAC All-Academic Team

ATLANTA, Ga. - Claflin’s Aaron Shepard was recently named to the SIAC All-Academic first Team at its annual Cross Country Championship, held at the “Beach” in Jonesboro, Ga.

Shepard is a sophomore from St. Louis, Mo. majoring in Bio-Chemistry at Claflin with a 3.99 GPA. Shepard has the fastest time (27 minutes, 5 seconds) in the 8K event for the Panthers this season. His best time ranks him 15th overall among SIAC Cross Country competitors.

Orangeburg Area Resource Center to hold 15th Annual Golf Classic

The Orangeburg Area Resource Center Foundation will hold its 15th annual golf tournament at noon on October 29 at the Hillcrest Golf Complex.
